Brian Katz: Acclaimed guitarist, pianist, composer & educator Brian Katz bridges modern jazz, classical and various world music—especially klezmer— to form his personal sound. Katz is internationally lauded for his orchestral approach to nylon-string solo guitar playing, evocative compositions and fiery free (open) improvisations. Brian is a committed music educator, holding positions in Music Education and Performance at the University of Toronto and York University, Toronto. He is a leading expert in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, an approach to music education that experientially examines the intrinsic relationships between physical movement and music, and teaches courses in jazz, classical, music education pedagogy, various styles of improvisation, and Music for Health and Wellness. At the festival, Brian will be performing an array of his stunning original compositions as well as ‘open’ improvisations forged in the moment, solo, on guitar and piano.
